A tale that began in the picturesque coastal town in the Deep South of Charleston, has led many crossed paths to the dark shadows of the City That Never Sleeps. From the age of 3, Asher Rose wanted to be a dancer. As he grew older, he set his sights on the prestigious performing arts college in New York City, Juilliard. He became so focused on that goal that his talent for fashion and design somewhat fell by the wayside into a mere hobby, and along with his high school sweetheart, Brodie Jay Bradford, had dreams of escaping the somewhat small town mindset of where they grew up. Asher didn't have an easy upbringing. He was raised by his single mother after losing his beloved father to cancer when he was eight years old. He was 'different' compared to the run of the mill high school kid, having fierce ambition and a determination to hold his head high after being bullied and belittled in school for being openly gay and borderline effeminate. When he met Brodie, a new kid newly moved to town from Portland, Oregon and one year younger than Asher, it was the first time in his life he ever felt like he had a kindred spirit...
They were each other's first loves, and initially, the romance never wavered. They were so different, Brodie a studious but fun-loving guy with a love of music and an urge to make it on Broadway as an actor. Despite their different personalities, they connected through mutual interests and the romance blossomed. But when Asher received the crushing news that he hadn't gotten into Juilliard, something inside him changed just a little bit and it became all-encompassing for him to succeed and show all the people who judged him and never gave him a chance that he didn't need them to make it to the top. He went to New York anyway, leaving the love of his life behind to finish his final year of high school. The distance worked for a little while, but when Asher's attention became solely focused on his ambition and less on his relationship with Brodie, cracks started to show and the relationship became strained. Asher, scorned over his Juilliard loss, threw all interest in becoming a dancer out the window and fashion design became his new niche... and it turns out it's where his true talent lay all along.
Portfolio in hand, after starting as a tiny business running from his shoebox apartment in Brooklyn, Asher Rose Designs quickly ignited from his unique style and stormed through the fashion industry. Soon, he had soon established a name for himself as New York's latest upcoming designer and name to be wearing on the red carpet. His head spun in the cutthroat industry, but he thrived on it. Getting caught up in the fame and fortune, Asher let his relationship with Brodie completely break down, and when Asher kept forgetting to return Brodie's calls, Brodie had to resort to email to end the beautiful relationship they had shared. Asher was crushed, his head so far in the clouds, he never even saw it coming. He had taken Brodie for granted, and when Brodie refused to talk to him to try and work things out, having believed rumours Asher had been cheating on him with some gay socialite hairdresser from London, Asher's glitzy foundations started to shake underneath him.
He fell into a depression and he ached every single day from Brodie's loss. He couldn't cope, and it was in once again trying to call Brodie on his cell phone after an industry schmoozing party one evening, far too drunk and high on his first ever snort of cocaine, that Asher stepped out in front of a speeding 4x4 at a deserted intersection in Manhattan and suffered such extensive injuries, he was almost killed on impact with barely a few life breaths left in him. It all happened so quickly that no one ever really got the full story. But it was a mysterious stranger who had been following Asher home from the party, sensing the distinct and overwhelming misery in the young man whose talent he had become fascinated with... one Eric Knight, a Kindred from the Ventrue Clan who was with his lover, Logan Buchanan, one of the finest Toreadors of his time. Asher and his talent were too prized, and Eric couldn't just let the boy die and waste such mesmirizing beauty. With Kindred lightning-quick reflexes, he rescued Asher from the scene of the accident, pulling him into a dark alley, but he knew Asher wasn't made of what his own bloodline was built on. Asher was stunning, and would walk the world as a Toreador only... nothing else would work. Panicked, Eric lost control and threatened his lover with death if he didn't rescue Asher, sharp Kindred claws poised against his throat in a frenzy, so Logan had no choice but Embrace Asher... and the rest is history.
Asher Rose was Kindred, and the world would never be the same again.
Since his Embrace, Asher continues to make Eric and Logan's life uncomfortable, and has adapted as a Kindred quite savvily, albeit still with wavering control due to his deep-seated feelings for Brodie and not wanting to feed unless pushed to his limit. And even then, it's only specific kinds of blood he will settle for. Asher's own apartment is only about a block from Logan and Eric's, and he refused to stay with them when they offered. He has a constant ache inside like he is missing a large portion of him, and he has become obsessed with trying to find Brodie... he just hasn't thought through what he will do if he ever does. It was the Kindred Prince of Paris, Blaise Richelieu, who observed the fact that Asher may have brought his suicidal ideation (or even intent) over to the Kindred world with him. Asher has regularly threatened to take his own Kindred life since he was Embraced when people attempt to control him or force him into something he has no interest in doing. The frustrating part is, they all know he will do it if they push far enough. He carries a small concealed pistol loaded with phosphorous bullets, and when he hasn't fed adequately, he can get into a frenzy. But rather than being a danger to others, he is more of a risk to himself. It has come to the point that unless he finds Brodie soon, he will stop searching and end the torment of facing immortal life without him.
It was Emmeline Laurent who has been trying to coax Asher to confide in her when Logan called in her help to try and connect with his Childer on a more calm and feminine level, but the conversation didn't go well even if she did get him to somewhat chill in her presence. She pushed that little bit too far, and the next thing she knew, he was holding a gun to his own head threatening her to back off or he would pull the trigger. He is infuriatingly uncooperative with Eric and Logan, who just want to help him. However, he blames them for pulling him back from suicide and if they don't keep their distance, he has told them he will expose the Masquerade and go straight to the Kindred Prince of New York to tell him he was Embraced against his will... who just so happens to be Eric's older brother, Benjamin Knight.
Within a vampire bloodline known as The Kindred, seven vampire clans are collectively joined, forming the largest sect of vampires called the Camarilla, and survive through the Masquerade, disguising themselves as humans. Camarilla policy is that vampires should try to fit in with and hide from the rest of humanity, as to easily feed on them. For this reason, they created a web of lies and misinformation, called the Masquerade, to make the public believe that supernatural beings like vampires could not possibly exist. The Camarilla also believes that the only way the vampire species can survive in these modern nights is if it unite. Any breach of the Masquerade by any vampire risks exposing the entire race. Both viewpoints are fundamentally opposed by the Sabbat, an opposing sect to the Camarilla. The Camarilla also enforces the Eldest as ruling class over the younger vampires. The seven clans of the Camarilla are Ventrue, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador, Gangrel, Tremere and Nosferatu. When a human is turned by a Kindred vampire, it is known as the Embrace, the vampire siring the human to embrace them into their own bloodline.
Each city has a ruler, a "Prince" who enforces the laws of The Masquerade that govern them to protect their anonymity. A clan is a group of vampires "related" by blood; i.e. the vampiric equivalent of an extended family or lineage. A clan is usually a large group, acknowledged widely in the vampiric society. Each clan nurture their own characteristics and traits, and each clan has its strengths and weaknesses. Often the clans do not always get along with certain clans such as the Brujah and the Ventrue actually hating one another. Each clan within a given area has a representative, a Primogen, who is usually the eldest and most powerful member of the clan, who attends the leader or prince's advisory council. This status also grants the character social advantages and greater power than being a normal member of their clan.

The Toreador are some of the most beautiful and glamorous of the Kindred. Famous (and infamous) as a clan of artists and innovators they are one of the bastions of the Camarilla, as their very survival depends on the facades of civility and grace on which the sect prides itself. In the middle age, the Toreador were a member of the High Clans, and their numbers were made up of the same types that are common in the modern nights - minstrels, painters, poets and actors. The Toreador revelled in the Victorian age. The Industrial Revolution led to a phenomenon that only the rich had been previously afforded - leisure time. A heyday of theatre, music and art began in cultural nexuses like New York, London and Paris and spread throughout the globe. While the influence of the Church in people's lives (and consequently, the influence Toreador held over the church) waned, those Kindred that latched themselves onto businessmen prospered. Possibly the one thing most Toreador love with the exception of beauty is money, and it was now accessible from places other than the landed gentry of the time. While the Clan has had peaks and troughs, this was a time that cemented them as a true power in the Camarilla.
It is said that while the Ventrue are the mind of the Camarilla, the Toreador are its soul. The Toreador portray themselves as the vampires closest to the living breathing pulse of the humans around them (though this honour might be shared with the Brujah). They claim that this is what keeps them so vital and modern. Indeed, Clan members are often the first ones to be aware of what mortals are wearing, eating, buying and sleeping with. The weakness of the Toreador Clan is that the members of this clan are as much prisoners of their artistic vision and sensitivity as they are its beneficiaries. They are often overcome by the beauty they see around them, and become immobilized with fascination. Such things as paintings, neon signs, or even sunrises can captivate them. It requires a successful Willpower roll to break the fascination quickly; otherwise, the Toreador will stand, awed and helpless, for minutes or even hours. This trait explains why Toreador so often fall in love with mortals.

If I told you what I've done?
And would you need me,
If I told you what I've become?
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes

A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away"
